Senior Data Engineer at Owlet Baby Care

Owlet’s Product Development team is searching for a driven, experienced, and innovative Senior Data Engineer to help lead our data and analytics team. This role will be reporting to our Director of Data Science. The ideal candidate has experience in machine learning libraries, experience as a Data Engineer, Software Developer, or related field and is passionate about innovation and quality. This is an awesome opportunity to help create forward-thinking and innovative products!


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop logs and metrics collection process for gathering data that enables creating visualizations of data across the full stack (hardware, firmware, platform, mobile)
  • Manage data pipelines to provide real-time debugging and analysis across the full stack
  • Design & develop automated and distributed frameworks to ingest and transform data from disparate sources across the organization
  • Provide clear documentation on design decisions and workflows
  • Design and develop data governance policies that adhere to applicable data laws (e.g. GDPR, CCPA) as it relates to health data
  • Manage the cost of our data flow and ensure we are maximizing our data value
  • Pick a solution stack to meet the data needs across the engineering organization


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent.
  • 6+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, Software Developer or related field in building real-time data pipelines for very large datasets required. A combination of education and experience may meet qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of Python
  • Experience with machine learning libraries such as TensorFlow
  • Experience with other languages a plus
  • Experience with UNIX/Linux, Kubernetes, Docker
  • Experience developing stream-based data pipelines like Kafka, Spark
  • Experience designing and architecting Big Data systems using BigQuery, Spanner
  • Experience with cloud native data technologies (Google Cloud, AWS)
  • Knowledge of search technology (e.g. Solr, Lucene, Elastic Search)
  • Advanced analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Passionate about data analysis and problem solving
  • Ability to elicit, gather and analyze user requirements
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with others at all levels of technical understanding
  • Able to meet deadlines
  • Works well cross functionally with different teams
  • Experience working with health data a plus
