BI Engineer at Owlet Baby Care

Data analytics is a crucial area of growth at Owlet, and your talents are needed to help internal business partners make data-driven decisions and help build a platform that allows greater accessibility to data. 

Responsibilities:

The BI Engineer is a combination of Data Analyst, Dashboard Creator, and Analytic Platform Engineer. As Owlet grows, you will focus more on building the analytics platform that the organization will use for self-service. Initially, you will work closely with the Cloud Data Architect and the business to determine which data elements should be centralized into the cloud data repository while building dashboards for the business.

  • Build dashboards to satiate the current demand for answers
  • Co-design and implement a semantic layer so business units can self-service where possible
  • Create dashboard templates so junior data users can have a starting point for data discovery
  • Mentor business analysts on data tools and analytical techniques
  • Develop an auditable deploy process and version control for key reports
  • Build repeatable processes in anticipation of the expansion of the Enterprise Analytics team 

Requirements:

You should be prepared to demonstrate proficiency using modern data visualization tools. You will use that knowledge combined with your excellent communication ability to bridge business concepts and needs to dashboards they can use to answer their questions. Owlet currently uses several well-known tools and may implement new technologies in the future to allow users to interact with their data. You will be expected to meet the internal customer where they are, using the tools they are most comfortable with. You will need to learn and be successful with whichever tools the organization uses and improve your knowledge of each tool through self-directed training. To accommodate software development life cycle, (SDLC) familiarity with git or other version control systems is desirable. Familiarity with programming deployments to analytics tools using APIs is also highly desirable. Bachelors or masters of science in related fields are also desirable. 

 

You will be prepared to demonstrate proficiency in all of the following:

  • SQL (MySQL, TSQL, Oracle, Postgres)
  • Python
  • GIT (Github, Gitlab, ADO)
  • Two or more BI tools  (Tableau, PowerBI, Looker, Qlik, Kibana, Sisense, Thoughtspot, SSRS)

 

Preference will be given to you if you can demonstrate proficiency in:

  • R, Rstudio
  • DAX
  • Scala
  • Spark
  • dbt 
  • Airflow
  • Redshift
  • Google Big Query
  • Data Bricks
  • Data Mart and Data Warehousing designs
  • API Datasources
