You should understand data governance, access controls and techniques to make users access to data intuitive. You are expected to have a deep understanding of ETL, ELT, data pipelines, data federation techniques, and methods of making your data repository perform well. You will need to be a self-starting, motivated learner, who is continually seeking a better way to accomplish your goals.
