Technical Writer at Lookout
Remote / United States of America

Lookout is an integrated endpoint-to-cloud cybersecurity company. Our mission is to secure and empower our digital future in a privacy-focused world where mobility and cloud are essential to all we do for work and play. With 100 million mobile sensors fueling a dataset of virtually all the mobile code in the world, the Lookout Security Cloud can identify connections that would otherwise go unseen—predicting and stopping mobile attacks before they do harm. We enable consumers and employees to protect their data and securely stay connected without violating their privacy and trust. Lookout is trusted by millions of consumers, the largest enterprises and government agencies, and partners such as AT&T, Verizon, Vodafone, Microsoft, Google, and Apple. Headquartered in San Francisco, Lookout has offices in Amsterdam, Boston, London, Sydney, Tokyo, Toronto, and Washington, D.C.

About You:

Can you demonstrate the differences between writing technical documentation versus social media content or marketing copy? Do you have a knack for helping customers understand how to set up and use apps and software? Can you distill information from multiple sources into simple, direct, usable details in writing? Do you thrive on bringing order to chaos in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment? We’d like to talk to you!

About the Role:

Lookout seeks an exceptional, highly motivated technical writer to join our growing Technical Publications team and help us produce quality customer-facing content. Your deliverables will include administrator guides, user interface text, release notes, patch notes, and various additional projects such as APIs, SDKs, and documentation for third-party integrations.

Our team has just begun to sync documentation coverage for both the mobile endpoint security (MES) and the secure access service edge (SASE) portions of Lookout’s business. In addition to writing technical documentation, you’ll participate in team meetings and contribute to decisions as we choose the right tools, update existing processes, and create new internal workflows to improve the customer experience.

It’s an exciting time to grow with us!

  • Broaden your skills as an integral part of a larger product team, helping to proactively identify areas that require technical documentation.
  • Participate in regular scrum, team, and one-on-one meetings to draft new and maintain existing technical documentation.
  • Learn about Lookout products and test functionality while writing.
  • Contribute suggestions for improvements to the product and user interface, especially as it applies to the customer experience.
  • Influence other stakeholders throughout the company by educating on our team’s processes and standard methodologies as we develop them together.
  • Contribute to shared projects across the larger team and organization.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or work equivalent.
  • 4+ years of experience as a technical writer.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills in English.

  • Comfortable working in a virtual office environment with teammates and stakeholders in multiple countries.
  • Strong attention to detail with effective analytical skills.
  • Aptitude for rapidly learning new tools, processes, and technologies.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Experience writing technical documentation for a cloud-based software company in the SaaS space.
  • Experience with or understanding of cybersecurity solutions, mobile device management, or enterprise-level security software.
  • Proficiency with HTML and XML authoring and publishing tools; familiarity with DITA methodology and DITA-style minimalist writing strongly preferred.
  • Experience with common technical apps such as Jira, Confluence, Salesforce, the full Google suite, Slack, and Zoom.
