Software Engineering Manager, Platform at Owlet Baby Care

As a Platform Engineering Manager, you will oversee the development and maintenance of services that power our Sock, Camera, and Band product lines. With stability, resilience, and scalability front of mind, you will help clarify ambiguous requirements in coordination with the product, mobile, firmware, hardware, and QA teams. A fast-growing group of engineers will rely on your guidance and mentorship to solve complex technical and organizational challenges.



  • Grow and lead an engineering team for the Platform organization
  • Plan short and long-term initiatives for individuals and the team
  • Within reasonable capacity, champion high-quality code with corresponding test coverage
  • Participate in regular code reviews and engage in constructive discussions
  • Monitor project achievements/milestones and ensure timely completion of projects
  • Gather and analyze metrics to paint an accurate picture of Owlet’s cloud services
  • Propose performance optimizations with careful and clever concern for reliability and scalability
  • Produce easily accessible documentation
  • Advocate for best practices and shape processes that foster collaboration and knowledge sharing
  • Cultivate the ongoing improvement of our systems
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to ensure stellar uptime for our customers



  • You have 5+ years of software engineering experience
  • 3+ years experience as an Engineering Manager leading Platform or full-stack software engineers
  • Experience running production high availability services with a distributed architecture
  • A deep understanding of scaling and reliability concerns
  • An instinct for architecture bottlenecks and an avid sense for system design
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases and surrounding principles
  • Expert-level coding proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language
  • Experience with major cloud providers like AWS and GCP
  • A complete understanding of software development lifecycle, methodologies, and best practices
  • The ability to bring structure to ambiguous requirements
  • Pride in the craft of software development, your unique views, and original ideas



  • You have experience developing and deploying with Kubernetes
  • Exposure to Google Cloud Platform
  • Experience with NoSQL databases
  • Experience managing a virtual team
