Software Development Engineer - mobile at Remitly

To succeed in this role, you should enjoy being in a startup environment and working hands-on with engineers and product teams across the company. As a Mobile Engineer, you will push the boundaries of client-side development, leading projects that expand the capabilities of both our customers and our engineers from ground up. This is a new role, we need someone who can set lofty goals.


The DEX team manages the core of Remitly's product; a platform for transferring funds quickly and reliably, ensuring our customers always have a great experience, from send to receive. We ensure the movement of over 12 billion dollars a year through disbursement methods such as bank deposit, cash pickup, mobile wallets, and home delivery. You will report to the Engineering Manager and work on a distributed team responsible for the core of Remitly's product.


You Will:

  • Work in a product team building a great software based on metrics rather than just delivering features
  • Contribute to the ideation, technical architecture, and development of our new Mobile App with a data-driven and customer-centric viewpoint.
  • Expand our React Native and TypeScript codebase with new tools and abstractions to support test automation, service-driven UI, request caching, and more.
  • Collaborate with all product roles, including other engineers product managers, designers, analytics, and business to provide the best experience for our customers
  • Experiment with new technologies and grow your skills in a supportive environment.
  • Be part of Remitly Engineering culture by adding customer value, partnering with and metoring others, creating and reviewing technical secifications, interviewing more excellent engineers as yourself and more  


You Have:

  • A BS in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience
  • 2+ years of experience as a software engineer
  • Product-, user-, and growth-oriented mindset
  • Understanding of software development practices, system design, software design patterns, data structures, and algorithms
  • Expertise in working with frontend web technologies like JavaScript, TypeScript, React and React Native
  • Proven experience in building mobile applications.
  • Familiarity with relational and non-relational databases
  • Familiarity with at least one of the backend technologies like Java, Kotlin, PHP, Go or Node.js
