About the position

The Design Research Intern will work on the Product Design and Research team, focusing on assisting design research activities in ensuring the creation and delivery of a compelling user experience for Lookout product lines. This is a 4-6-month long contract, with preference given to candidates available to start immediately for 6 months. 

The individual will work closely with UX/Design Researchers and Product Designers to conduct research to identify unmet user needs, explore competitive insights and collect user feedback under the guidance of UX/Design Researchers. A successful candidate will empathize with users, understand research methodologies/data coding and analysis/design foundation, and have a passion for building world-class products. 

Responsibilities

  • Work with designers and researchers to validate design concepts, synthesize the research findings and iterate product experience to incorporate user needs into the product development process
  • Create frameworks for various research methodologies such as rapid user research/testing, A/B testing, discussion guides for interviews, etc.
  • Assist workshop facilitation, interviews, and various research activities
  • Create and deliver share-outs on product insights, opportunities, and user feedback.
  • Help the team make intelligent decisions on various research (and remote collaboration) tools/platforms/services

Requirements

  • Undergraduate or graduate student in the process of obtaining a degree in User Experience Design, HCI, Cognitive Science, Anthropology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience (graduating between December 2022 and August 2023)
  • Critical thinking skills: i.e. The ability to make decisions (or guide team decisions) driven by reason and logic, considering parameters in place and potential consequences of said decisions
  • Excellent communication skills to explain goals and project decisions and to ask questions that clarify potential confusion/misalignment
  • Essential understanding of user experience, interaction, and information design, including the ability to focus on various levels of ambiguity/specificity as needed
  • A portfolio or work samples that include design research projects
